Transcranial Pulse Stimulation TPS in Dementia, Parkinson's and Related Disorders

Wednesday, January 18th 2023

The Austrian Society of Neurology (ÖGN) has received a call from the Austrian Medical Association (ÖÄK) to respond to promotional letters from physicians on the use of transcranial pulse stimulation (TPS) in neurological diseases (especially dementia). The Austrian Alzheimer Society (ÖAG) and the Austrian Parkinson Society (ÖPG), two associated societies of the ÖGN, were asked to discuss this topic in the light of the available evidence.

Both societies currently consider the use of this method to be unjustifiable and not evidence-based, as it is an experimental treatment approach whose therapeutic efficacy and side effect profile must first be evaluated in clearly defined clinical trials in order to be safely offered to patients with dementia or with PD and other movement disorders.

Yours sincerely,

Univ.-Prof. Priv.-Doz. Dr. Christian Enzinger, MBA
Prasident of ÖGN
